Who we are

Hill Country Barn Builders is operated by Compass Camper LLC, an Oregon-registered marketing company. We are not a barndominium or barn contractor, and we do not perform construction work. We operate this website to connect landowners across the Texas Hill Country and the San Antonio and Austin areas with Suburban Buildings, an independent builder based in Boerne.

What we actually do

We run a free referral service. When you submit a project through our form, your details go to Suburban Buildings, who can schedule a free consultation or quote. You deal with that builder directly for any design, pricing, and construction. There is no cost to you, and no obligation.

We make money the way most referral services do: the builder pays us a fee when an introduction from this site turns into a signed project. That is why we can offer the referral to landowners for free, and it is why we are upfront that we are a marketing service, not a builder.

The builder this site's requests go to

Suburban Buildings, LLC is our partner contractor: an independent custom steel, post-frame and barndominium builder based at 635 State Hwy 46 E, Suite 202, Boerne, TX 78006, in Kendall County. Under a written agreement with Compass Camper LLC signed September 15, 2026, it receives every request this site produces. It builds residential, agricultural and commercial projects across the Texas Hill Country and the San Antonio and Austin areas, and it has received this site's quote requests since September 2026. The service area lists every community it covers.

What we hold on file. Suburban Buildings carries commercial general liability insurance with Scottsdale Insurance Company, $1,000,000 each occurrence and $2,000,000 general aggregate, on a certificate dated September 14, 2026 with a policy period running through March 1, 2027. It is accredited by the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating and no complaints on record when we checked. The builder pays us a fee only when an introduction from this site turns into a signed project, which is why the referral costs you nothing.

Two things we deliberately do not print. Texas licenses no home builders, so there is no builder license number to publish for anyone. And we do not hold the builder's warranty terms, so ask Suburban Buildings for its written warranty when you meet, and ask for a current certificate of insurance issued to you before work starts, as you should with any builder. Why we built the permitting and cost content

A barndominium or barn in the Hill Country is a big, planned purchase, and the local realities, septic rules, wind load, wells, and limestone site work, are genuinely confusing and often misrepresented online. So we built plain-language, well-sourced references on county permitting and real local costs. Being the most accurate, most useful Hill Country building resource is how we earn your trust, rather than through claims we cannot back up.

What we ask of the builder we connect you with

The independent builder we connect landowners with is expected to:

• hold the current Texas licensing required for their trades and work;
• carry general liability insurance;
• offer written workmanship warranties on completed work; and
• provide transparent, itemized written estimates before performing any work.

Credentials belong to those independent contractors, not to us. Texas has licensed no home builders or general contractors since the Texas Residential Construction Commission expired in 2009, so ask any builder directly for the trade licenses, insurance, and references their specific scope of work carries.
